In Colorado, gun violence prevention efforts have worked to bring Colorado's gun purchasing regulations up to standards that protect public safety. They have largely focused on improving the regulations around legal gun purchases. At Blue Rising Together, we have begun to turn our attention to the flow of guns that are being obtained illegally and are falling into the possession of those that are not legally allowed to own firearms; young people and those that are forbidden by law including prior felons or some with violent misdemeanors.

If we want to have an impact on daily gun violence plaguing many communities in Colorado, we need to invest in youth that are at-risk for being involved in violence and we need to cut off the easy access of guns through social media platforms.
